In the library we want to encourage our students to read good literature. Books that have won the Newbery Medal award are examples of well written literature for children.Our fourth and fifth grade students have an opportunity to be part of the Newbery Club by reading one or more Newbery medal winner or honor books. When a student finishes reading a Newbery book, they fill out a Newbery sheet and tell about the setting, characters and key details of the story. A student's name goes up on the library wall and a sticker is added to their name card with each Newbery that they read. Some students have read over twenty Newbery books and one student has read seventy-eight of these award books!
